New DESFire ID system for Amsterdam School of Arts
Zoetermeer - On 31 August, as scheduled, ScreenCheck Europe B.V. successfully finalized the delivery and implementation of the multifunctional chip card system for the tender for Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (AHK - Amsterdam School of Arts).
The AHK had six faculties in different locations using a variety of card and access control systems. Uniformity and synergy were the main objectives for the new card system, that should facilitate administration, allow access to various levels and to be used as a college ID, payment card and media/library card. Main contractor ScreenCheck performed in this project together with its partners Simac Quadcore (Access Control) and Magna Carta (Payment).

Mirjam Kloosterman has been responsible for project management on behalf of the AHK, supported by Marcel Laks from 4C4U, who has been appointed as an external advisor by the AHK. 'It has been quite a challenge', said Laks, 'to implement and manage a centrally monitored management system in a decentralized organization. The fact that the six faculties used the student card for different applications made it even more challenging. ScreenCheck and the AHK succeeded; something to be proud of!'
Ed Toonen, project manager ScreenCheck Europe commented: 'I have enjoyed the cooperation with the AHK and our partners. We have created automatic links to all applications and the latest MIFARE DESFire EV1 card technology has been applied to obtain a higher security level. We aimed at managing all AHK facility applications by one contactless photo ID badge, issued by ScreenCheck's card management system. This demands not only full customization but also proper tuning and good communication. I believe that we succeeded in these aspects.' The chairman of the AHK steering committee, Mr. Patrick Waller, confirmed by signing for the successful implementation on August 31st.
